Shamakhy Astrophysical Observatory (SHAO) hosted an event called "Astronomy Winter School for Students" dedicated to March 27 - Science Day on March 8-10, 2019.

Director of ANAS, Corresponding Member of ANAS Namik Jalilov spoke at the official opening of the event organized by the Shamakhy Astrophysical Observatory named after N.Tusi, "Azercosmos", Tusi-Bohm Planetarium and AstroClub Student Association.

He noted that the head of state signed on April 9, 2018 a decree establishing the "Day of Science" in the Republic of Azerbaijan. It was decided to celebrate March 27 as "Science Day" in Azerbaijan every year. It is planned to hold different events throughout the country to spend this wonderful day at a high level. The organization of "Astronomy Winter School for Students" is one of the activities carried out in this area. The primary aim of the event is to promote students' interest in astronomy and space sciences.

It should be noted that at the three-day event, more than 30 students from the Baku State University, Azerbaijan Diplomatic Academy, National Aviation Academy, Baku branch of Moscow State University, Baku Engineering University, Khazar University and Western Kaspi University were provided with reports covering various aspects of astronomy by the SHAO staff and answered their questions.

At the end of the event were awarded certificates to the participants of the school.
